A mistake I sometimes see is people who don’t have the tools, are trying to get by with only free tools or have only part of the suite of tools they must have to be successful.
Maybe it’s my background (I was a tradesman electrician) but to me this borders on lunacy. Or, more charitably, ignorance – a lack of knowledge.
To me it’s obvious. Can a builder build a superb mansion without a hammer? The painter a Madonna without an brush? A chef without a superb set of knives?
Of course not, and so it is with building an internet marketing business, you have to – let me say that again – have to have the tools to get the job done.
This is not an area to take shortcuts in, nor to accept second best. Your marketing tools set is the bedrock your internet success will be built on.
Let me tell you a short story (bear with me – there is a reason for telling it)
Over three and a half years ago, I was ending a three year contract as a diplomatic attache at the New Zealand Embassy in Moscow, had relearned how wonderful it was to be able to wander the world, do interesting things and meet diverse peoples and wasn’t at all looking forward to returning to the boredom and routine of any job back in New Zealand.
Despite having no internet business, sales or marketing experience I was attracted to the lifestyle, international portability and personal freedom a successful internet marketing business has provided to so many people and decided to go online and find out more about what could be achieved.
Like you, I suspect, initially I was attracted to the hype and promise of easy riches, gazillions rolling in without effort – but somehow these many high profile ‘oppurtunities’ didn’t quite ring true to me. As a country boy from Southern New Zealand, I guess my skepticism kicked in. If it’s too good to be try -it’s probably too good to be true.
So I had to ask myself, what really has potential, and what do I need to turn the potential into dollars? On reflection (thinking like an electrician I guess) I decided:
1) Training – starting at beginner level
2) Tools – whatever they turned out to be.
3) Something to sell – something everyone needs ( just like the electricity I was familiar with)
